An ancient theme, a modern story:
A business woman lost a gold Parker pen that her mother had given her. She had been using the pen on the train and then couldn't find it when she got back to the office. She searched her look-alike Guchi handbag and her Fiorelli laptop bag, but couldn't find it. She searched many times, but still nothing. Something of value was missing...
How much more does God the Father long for us, his children? Jesus used stories about something being lost and then found to describe the Kingdom of God.
"And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbours together, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!' Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15: 9-10.
